Canvas Texas State: Student Login

Canvas Texas State refers to the collaborative learning environment which creates an online communication bridge between students and instructors. Canvas is basically used by CPE (Center for Professional Education) to create a virtual teaching-learning space. It acts as an add-on to the in-class experience provided to the students.

 

What Is Canvas Texas State?

Canvas Texas State is the open-source LMS (Learning Management System) of the Texas State University which helps the students access course materials, assignments, class discussions, and quizzes online. The Canvas offers two types of sites: course site and project site. A student can access academic coursework, syllabus, materials, and documents required for a course using a course site. The project site helps the student collaborate on projects, committee work, research, and other collaborative development tasks.

Canvas also has two mobile applications, i.e., Canvas Teacher App and Canvas Student App, wherein students can grab their courses anywhere, anytime. Using the mobile application of Canvas Texas State, students can connect with their Canvas courses, access their syllabus and documents, and receive announcements of their course and forum notifications on their mobile device. 

 

How To Log Into Canvas Texas State? 

Canvas Texas State offers two login sites: 

  1. TXST Login
  2. Guest Login 

Canvas Texas State Login

For TXST Login, follow the following steps: 

  1. Open your web browser.
  2. Go and navigate to https://canvas.txstate.edu/login/saml
  3. You will land at a screen that asks you to enter your username and password. Enter your username and password. 
  4. Hit the login button. 
  5. Hurray! You have accessed your TXST Canvas Texas State portal. 

 

For Guest Login, follow the following steps:

  1. Open your web browser. 
  2. Go and navigate to https://canvas.txstate.edu/login/canvas
  3. You will land at a screen that asks you to enter your Guest login details and password. Enter your Guest login and password. 
  4. Hit the login button. 
  5. Hurray! You have accessed your Guest Canvas Texas State portal.

 

What To Do When You Forget Your Canvas Texas State Password?

If you have forgotten your Canvas Texas State Password by mistake and are unable to access your account, follow the steps below:

  1. Go to the login page of Canvas Texas State. 
  2. Click on “Forgot Password“. It will redirect you to the Online Toolkit window. 
  3. Choose your identifier type (i.e., NetID / Texas State ID). An example of Net ID is zzz99, and that of Texas State ID is A12345678.
  4. Fill up your identifier and date of birth in the respective boxes.
  5. Fill in the code displayed in the image. Alternatively, you can also get an audio code. After filling in all the details properly, hit the “Next” button.
  6. In the next window, fill in your last name, personal email address, and social security number in the appropriate boxes. Hit the “Validate” button. 
  7. You will receive a one-time-use link in your preferred personal email address from the system. The time the email reaches your inbox depends on your email service. However, if you don’t receive the email within 15 minutes, search in your spam or junk folder. 
  8. On receiving the email, you will find a link in it. Click on the link. 
  9. Enter your date of birth in the window which pops up. Hit the “Validate” button.
  10. Don’t forget to check the checkbox which says, “I agree to comply with the information security, appropriate use, and other policies of Texas State University.” 
  11. Enter your preferred new NetID password. Re-enter it as asked to do so. Remember, your passphrase must not be less than 15 characters. Click on the “Submit” button. 
  12. Hurray! You have set up your new NetID and password.

 

How To Manage Notifications Settings On Canvas As A Student? 

Your notification preferences help you select how and when you wish to receive notifications about various incidents taking place within your course. Canvas lets you receive a both SMS text and email notifications. To manage your notification settings, follow the below-mentioned steps: 

  1. Hit the “Account” button present in the Global Navigation Menu.
  2. Move to “Settings“.
  3. You will find a sidebar, i.e., “Ways to Contact“. Your TxState email is the default email attached to your account. By clicking on the “Add” icon, you can merge your Canvas account with another email address. 
  4. You can also add other contact methods such as SMS text messages. For doing so, click on the Add Contact Method link and add your contact by entering the required details.
  5. Choose your notification preferences according to your suitability. Select and hit the Notify immediately option if you wish to receive the notification immediately. Select and hit the Daily summary option if you want to receive daily notifications. There are also other preferences, such as “Weekly Summary,” wherein you will receive weekly notifications. 
  6. After choosing your notification preference, you are ready to go!

 

How To Submit File Assignments On Canvas Texas State? 

To submit your files as assignments on Canvas Texas State, follow the steps below:

  1. Open your Canvas dashboard.
  2. Move to the assignment section. Click on the “Submit Assignment” button present in the top-right corner of the screen.
  3. Click on “Choose File“. 
  4. Select your file and upload it in the pop-up window.
  5. After uploading your file, click the “Submit Assignment” button. 
  6. If you want to submit multiple assignments, you can do so by clicking on “+Add Another File.” 
  7. You can re-submit your assignments till the last date set up by your tutor/instructor. Moreover, you can also leave comments for your instructor in the specified space.

 

How To View And Access Grades And Feedback In Canvas Texas State? 

Here are the following steps for viewing and accessing your grades and feedback in Canvas Texas State:

  1. Open your Canvas dashboard.
  2. Use your login details to access your ePortfolio. You will have to use your NetID and password for accessing your ePortfolio. 
  3. Click on the “Courses” button present in the left menu. 
  4. Hit the “Coursework” button and click on the “Assignments” button in the left menu.
  5. Select and click on the “Assignment title” whose grade and feedback you wish to view.
  6. After the page gets loaded, click on the “Assessment Tool” button in the “Details” area. Now, you can view your scores and the comments you received to submit your assignments. 
  7. After viewing and saving your score, click on the “Close button.
